Founder, Abbot Kinney’s initial plan was to create the “Venice of America”, a beachfront resort town that closely resembled Venice, Italy complete with a system of canals, an amusement pier and a steam railroad. To accommodate the general public, Venice became “The Coney Island of the Pacific”; a residential and commercial beachfront town located in LA, California.

Venice boasts of a lot of tourist attractions such as;

Venice Beach Canals; as part of his original “Venice of America” plan, Abbot Kinney built these man made canals in the Venice Historic District. Some parts of the canals were later filled in 1929 to build streets for the accommodation of vehicles.

Venice beach; where the lively Venice Beach boardwalk upstages the Pacific Ocean. Dubbed “Venice Breakwater”, the beach is a favorite among locals and tourists alike because of its surf spot built by Abbot Kinney in 1905 to protect his amusement pier. The breakwater is the only part of the beach where waves break on both sides.

Bummed because you can’t surf? Not to worry, Go Surf LA offers beginner and intermediate surfing lessons all year long at the Venice Beach for 90 minutes, 7 days a week. Side attractions include a wetsuit and soft-top surfboards with each $80 surf lesson.

Beyond Baroque Literacy Arts Center; located in the original Venice City Hall Building, the art center is a non-profit public space devoted to supporting new writers and cultivating the reading culture.
