Palisades Park
Palisades Park is a 26.4-acre park located along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California. The park is situated on an uplifted, unconsolidated sedimentary coastal Quaternary terrace, with exposed bluffs and a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and the coastal mountains. While the park is not a large park, it offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and sightseeing.
The oldest structure in the park is the Idaho Gate, a Craftsman-style archway built in 1912. The totem pole was donated to the park by Walter J. Todd in 1926, and Eugene H. Monrahan donated a Native American totem pole in 1934. Both Todd and Monrahan’s contributions contributed to the park’s aesthetic appeal. The cliff-side ruins of Linda Vista Park are located just steps away. The southern portion of the park was donated by Senator John P. Jones, while the northern portion was given by the Santa Monica Land and Water Company. Its original name was Linda Vista Park until 1915. The park also includes one of the few remaining Camera Obscuras in the U.S. It also has several monuments and Craftsman-era stone gates.
